Lakes of Cumbria
Cumbria has 19 major lakes, ranging from small to large, from natural to man-made reservoirs. Millions of years ago earth movement gouged out the land, and 15,000 years ago the glacial period formed the lakes. The need for water in cities such as Manchester spurred the development of the reservoirs.
