Rydal Water
(See also Rydall , Rydall Hall , Rydal Mount and St Mary's Church)
Rydal Water 0.75 mile in
length 0.25 mile in width and 55ft in depth, lies in the vale of the Rothay with the
Rothay river connecting it to Grasmere Lake. Bracken-covered fells rise up from the lake shores.
Doreen Wallace in discussing the size of Rydal Water in English Lakeland described it as
a mere raindrop of a lake, and it is tiny.
Wordsworths home at Rydal Mount provides a
splendid view of Rydal Water and beyond to Silver How. He liked to walk around both of the lakes
by way of Loughrigg Terrace and Red Bank. It is one of several walks around the lake.
Rydal Water is located on the A591 by the town of Rydal.
