Sandscale Hawes Nature Reserve

Sandscale Hawes Nature Reserve and dune system is under the care of the National Trust. It looks out over the Duddon estuary. On the reserve are a colony of natterjack toads and rare orchids. Common blue, dingy skipper, grayling, and dark-green fritillary are butterflies found on the reserve. It is a good bird spotting site with waders the predominant type.

Follow the Cumbria Coastal Ways path through the reserve west of Askam-in-Furness.

Sandscale Hawes is located at the mouth of Morecambe Bay south-west of Askam-in-Furness.
