Marsh Helleborine

Marsh Helleborine by charliebee17 FlickrThe marsh helleborine is a common wetland plant found in bogs, fens and marshes in Cumbria. It is in the orchid family.

Broad, oval leaves grow near the bottom of the slightly red coloured stem, and, as the leaves go up, they get narrower.

The flowers are at their peak during late July and August. Each spike has ten to twenty pink and white flowers.
