Cumbria and The Lake District Casterton Stone Circle

Casterton Stone Circle

(See also Casterton)

Casterton Stone Circle courtesy of Andy BurnhamCasterton stone circle, set in an irregular earth bank, dates from the neolithic/bronze age, approximately BC2000-600. Making up the 62 foot in diameter circle are 19 stones. The tallest stone is 19.5 inches high. A circular feature in the bank may be a cairn. It is thought that some 1828 discoveries, among which were a bronze spearhead, flint arrowhead, and drinking vessel, came from this circle.

Casterton stone circle is located northeast of the village of Casterton.
