Lakeland Wildlife Oasis
(See also Hale , Milnthorpe and Heron Corn Mill)
At the Lakeland Wildlife
Oasis, the story of life on earth is conveyed by working models, interactive displays, and live
animals. The collection of animals is varied and includes starfish, snakes, chameleons, monkeys,
flying foxes, and poison arrow frogs.
There are projection microscopes to see marine life. A butterfly hall and a tropical hall with reptiles and birds are part of the indoor
attractions. Other exhibits include a colony of leaf cutter ants.
Visitors may do fossil rubbings and pet the snakes. For children there is an
animal stamping trail. The centre participates in an international breeding program for
threatened species. Some of these at the centre are the waldrapp ibis and the fossa (from
Madagascar).
