Brewery Arts Complex
(See also Kendal)
The Brewery Arts Centre is an arts complex with theatre,
music, cinema, and dance performances. Art galleries, community events, courses, and workshops
complete the mix. The Warehouse Gallery presents emerging national artists. The Sugar Store
Gallery displays photographs. Both have changing exhibitions.
The complex is housed in a former brewery set in an
18th century garden. A brewery was first licensed nearby in 1758. Taken over in 1858
by a new owner, it moved to the present arts complex building. The brewery's heyday was in the
1930's. It closed in 1968 and became an arts centre in the 1970's.
