Dent Crafts Centre
(See also Dent)
Originally an
18th century hay barn, the building that houses the Dent Crafts Centre is located at
Helmside on the main road between Sedbergh and Dent.
Watercolours, crafts and prints are on display. Nidderdale boxes, bird
sculptures, walking sticks and wooden bowls are part of the
items on show along with handmade cards, silk flowers, wool tops, waistcoats and travel rugs in
Yorkshire wool.
Pottery and ceramics from local studios, watercolours, silver jewellery and
metalwork add to the large selection of handcrafted goods.
A tearoom serves coffee,
lunch and afternoon tea. Home-baked cakes and cookies, homemade soup, and fresh ground coffee are
among the treats. In the summer Dales made ice cream is available.
Buzzard’s Cottage, named for the buzzards that circle Helm’s Knott, is part of
the Dent Crafts Centre. It is now a self-catering cottage. Views over the Dentdale hills are on
offer along with an atmospheric interior complete with stone walls and a spiral staircase.
