Holehird Gardens

(See also Windermere)

Holehird Flowers courtesy of Graeme DougalHolehird Gardens, 1½ miles from Windermere, sit on a hillside at the southern end of Troutbeck valley. Beatrix Potter stayed here with her family in the summers of 1885 and 1889. The ten acres of gardens sit on a hillside at the southern end of the Troutbeck valley and provide spectacular views across the lake to the fells beyond.

Holehird Flowers courtesy of Graeme DougalA walled kitchen garden, rock garden, orchard, heathers and shrubs make for a peaceful stroll. The garden has a national collection of astilbes, hydrangeas and polystichum ferns.

Holehird mansion, a Grade II listed building on the site, now serves as a nursing home.
