Farfield Mill
(See also Sedbergh)
Situated on the banks of the River
Clough, Farfield Mill is a typical 4 storey stone mill of Victorian times. Built in 1837, it was
the last such textile mill to operate in Sedbergh, closing its doors in 1992.
The building's 18,000 square feet are restored and open to visitors. On view are
Dobcross looms, an 1896 turbine, and a heritage exhibition on
the Yorkshire Dales woollen industry. Working potters, knitters, and wood sculpturers have
studios on site. The arts and crafts gallery has changing exhibitions, and various workshops are
presented.
There are riverside walks from the mill, which is set in an attractive dale with
fells on either side.
Farfield Mill is on the A684 Garsdale Road one mile from Sedbergh.
