Kings Own Royal Border Regimental Museum
(See also Carlisle)
The Regimental Museum is located in Carlisle Castle in
what was once the royal apartments, a chapel, and the Great Hall.
In 1872-3 Carlisle was designated as the training depot of the 34th
Cumberland and 55th Westmorland Regiments, known in 1881 as the Border Regiment. From
that time until 1959 when regiments were amalgamated, Carlisle Castle was home to the Border
Regiment training depot. After 1959, the training aspect was discontinued, but the Castle is
still home to the Regimental Museum.
The museum houses the uniforms, equipment, medals, weapons,
silver, and other memorabilia of Cumbria's County Infantry Regiment, the King's Own Royal Border
Regiment, and local Militia. There are video presentations.
King's Own Royal Border Regimental Museum Carlisle is located on the A595.
