Lakeland Motor Museum
(See also Holker Hall and Holker Hall Gardens)
The Lakeland Motor Museum is a must for fans of automobilia.
Located on the grounds of Holker Hall, it houses more than 20,000 objects ranging from
advertising posters to petrol pumps to vintage motorcycles. A collection of more than 150 cars
includes Alpha Romeos, Lagondas, Bentleys, and Buicks. Tractors, bicycles, and pedal cars round
out the motor exhibition. There's even a recreation of a 1920's garage.
The museum houses a replica of the Bluebird car driven by Donald Campbell when he
broke the world land speed record in 1935. Another replica is of the hydroplane in which he
killed himself on Coniston Lake in 1967 while trying to break a speed record.
