Museum of Lakeland Life At Abbot Hall
(See also Kendal)
The Museum of Lakeland Life, in a converted stableblock at
Abbot Hall, details the history of life in Lakeland over the past 250 years. You can walk down an
Edwardian street and visit an 18th century kitchen. The 'Victorians in the Lake
District' section includes toys and games and Victorian décor in a 19th century
bedroom and parlour.
For all lovers of the Arts and Crafts movement, there is a display devoted
especially to it. Another section contains the drawings and memorabilia of author Arthur Ransome
(Swallows and Amazons). Temporary displays draw on the costume collection. Educational
activities and events pay special attention to the interests of children.
