William Creighton Mineral Museum and Gallery

(See also Cockermouth , Sheep of Cumbria and William Wordsworth's House)

Cockermouth Mineral MuseumThe exhibits at the WM Creighton Mineral and Fossil Museum, housed in an 18th century building, focus on Northern English specimens, many of whose origins are from the Cleator Moor area or Egremont's Florence Mine. The minerals and rocks are a varied collection of shapes and colours. They include Shap granite, garnet, Cumberland green slate, and andesite. One of the displays highlights a collection of fluorescent minerals. Fossils and a collection of miners' lamps and tools are included.
