Windermere Steamboat and Museum
(See also Windermere)
The Windermere Steamboat Centre is home to
a collection of 15 historic steam and motor boats in a covered setting on Lake Windermere.
Included in the group of boats are the S. L. Dolly, salvaged after 67 years on a lake bed.
T.S.S.Y. Esperance and S. L. Branksome give a taste of the luxurious level to which steamboats
aspired. Esperance was Captain Flint's houseboat in Arthur Ransome's classic children's novel,
Swallows & Amazons. Beatrix Potter's rowboat is on display.
Steam launch trips are on offer. Events
are held throughout the opening months and are listed on the website.
