The National Mountaineering
Exhibition is housed in Rheged, Europe's largest grass-covered building. The permanent exhibition
tells the story of Britain's mountaineering heritage, displaying equipment, artefacts, film, and
photographs from expeditions that include Everest and the Matterhorn.
Rheged also includes shops selling local foods and crafts, restaurants, art
exhibitions, and a cinema that shows "Rheged: the Movie", a journey through time. The movie
presents bird's eye views of the Lake District.
