Blue Badger Guide Tom McCafferty
The Cumbria Directory is pleased to recommend Tom McCafferty as our Official Blue Badge Guide and Driver Guide. Sit back and relax in a comfortable vehicle, leave the driving to Tom, and learn fascinating facts about Cumbria and its Lake District.
A Blue Badge guide is trained, examined and registered by the British Tourist Board as a registered tour guide with a professional status. It is Britains premier guiding qualification.
Driver guides belong to the professional association of registered Blue Badge driver guides in Britain. They carry full legal private hire insurance.
Tom is a Cumbrian and former member of the countys police force, having served with them for 28 years. He also holds training with the fell rescue service, and, of course, the Blue Badge organisation, equipping him for all aspects of guiding. Tom is not only a knowledgeable guide and excellent driver but also pleasant, companionable and accommodating to your tour needs.
Tom will pick you up wherever you are in Cumbria. You can choose one of the tours Tom has on offer or pre-plan your own itinerary. All tours can be tailored to your interests and arranged on any theme or topic (gardens, Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, etc.). Trips can last a full day or half day. Toms air-conditioned vehicle carries six passengers.
Examples of tours are:
-
Ten Lakes Tour: this encompasses ten of Cumbrias lakes.
-
The Rum Story: this includes the Rum Story exhibition, Whitehaven and its 400 listed buildings, Honister pass, Loweswater and more.
-
Western Heights: Some of the most dramatic lake District routes are seen on this trip with peaks, valleys, historic forts and castles.
-
Grasmere: Follow the steps of Wordsworth around the village and visit his homes ending with a visit to Elterwater.
Prices of tours vary depending on time, number of people and selection of tour.
