Bampton

Bampton bridge over Howes Beck courtesy of Graeme DougalOverlooked by cliffs, Bampton is a small hamlet sitting on the edge of the Lowther Valley in Eden. It mirrors its 19th century past when it served the local needs of the villagers and surrounding farms. It still has a post office, a tearoom, and a 17th century pub. A sports day for local parents and children is held in June. Every November the Mardale Shepherd's Meet is held here. Sheep are rounded up and sorted out and returned to their owners. 'The Land Girls', filmed in 1998, used Bampton and area for some of their movie locations.Bampton St Patricks Well Inn courtesy of Graeme Dougal
