Bewaldeth
The village of Bewaldeth (High Bewaldeth is just south of Bewaldeth) is
in Allerdale behind Binfell. In 2001 there were 40 inhabitants in the village. It is part of the
parish of Bewaldeth and Snittlegarth. A camp site is nearby.
The first organized meet of the Cumbria Soaring Club took place at the village,
and it is still used as a paragliding and hang gliding site. Dog shows and motorcycle events are
sometimes held here.
Hedgehogs, moles, red squirrel, fox, badger, and otter inhabit the land
surrounding the village. Many birds are found here and include buzzards, kestrels, pheasant, grey
partridge, curlew, barn and tawny owls, and woodpigeon. Large white, orange tip, and meadow brown
butterflies can be spotted.
