Hartsop

Hartsop lies in Patterdale within what was once a royal forest set aside for deer hunting. Red squirrels, badgers, birds and other wildlife like this peaceful valley spot.

A hundred years after it was built it passed into the ownership of Sir John Lowther who was the first Lord Lonsdale. It then was used as an ordinary farmhouse.

A mile from the village is the remote Hayeswater.
