Seatoller

The hamlet of Seatoller sits near Rosthwaite and Honiston pass at Borrowdales head. Its a popular area for walkers. Scafell Pike is nearby. This section of the valley is characterized by green farmland and populated with sheep. A popular walk starts at Seatoller and heads to Combe Gill making a circuit back to the village.

There are a number of establishments that provide overnight accommodation and camping for hikers. The Yew Tree is an amalgamation of two cottages built in 1628. They served, during Queen Elizabeth Is reign, as accommodation for German miners during the time when graphite was mined locally. It was called plumbago and used for dye, pencils, and medicine.

Also here is Seatoller barn, a Lake District National Park Authority information centre complete with garden and picnic site. A backpacking hostel provides budget rooms.

Twice a year the Lakeland Hunt invades Seatoller, but they dont go after wildlifethey race one another.
