Dovenby

Dovenby Ship Inn courtesy John HolmesDovenby consists of cottages surrounded by farmland. There are a few new builds. There is a school and a pub in the small village. Two larger properties have self-catering accommodation.

Dovenby Hall courtesy M-Sport LtdDovenby Hall, a Georgian property, was built on an early tunnel-vaulted pele tower constructed in the last part of the 12th century. The walls were 1.8m thick and the tower 9.2m high. The tower had a round-headed loop with two chamfers. Extensions were added in the 16th and 17th centuries and the year 2001. It is now in private ownership and the centre of Ford’s World Rally. Many outlying buildings have been constructed on the land around the original hall.
