Hilton

Hilton rainbow by David Brown GeographHilton is a small village located at the foot of Hilton Fell. Hilton Beck adds a scenic touch to the village.

Unfortunately the MOD’s Warcop firing range is nearby and creates noise most of the time during the day.

In the village is an attractive barn and cottage.Hilton barn and cottage by Trevor Littlewood Geograph

Hilton Mine, located north-east of the village in Scordale, was worked in the 1800s for lead ore, then for barium minerals, barites, and witherite in the early 1900s. It was also the source of yellow coloured fluorite. The mine no longer operates.
