Hincaster canal tunnel by Raymond Knapman GeographHincaster was home to a gunpowder mill until after World War I. In the area is a branch of the Lancaster canal which was used to transport the gunpowder. The canal, opened in 1819, went through a 378 yard long tunnel near Hincaster. The tunnel is now designated as an ancient monument.
