The tiny hamlet of Soulby is located on Soulby Fell's southeastern slopes where it meets the foot of Lake Ullswater. It is comprised of a few scattered houses.

Soulby means ‘village near the fork or joining of two rivers’. The River Eamont and Dacre Beck are nearby. There are views across the lake.
