Watermillock

(See also Ullswater , Aira Force)

Watermillock from sharrow bay Ullswater by LambertWatermillock lies in a farming area looking over Ullswater. Its homes are set around the farms they belong to. The area is popular for holidays with many of the farm buildings converted to bed and breakfast and self-catering accommodation. Camping and caravan sites have also taken over farmland. A traditional coaching inn, the Brackenrigg, and country house hotels add to the mix of accommodations.

Watermillock All Saints Church by dkodigitalThe local church, All Saints, was constructed in 1881 of sandstone and slate. The tower at the west end dates from 1558, and was re-used in the construction of the new church. A new bell was hung to celebrate Queen Victorias Diamond Jubilee. George IIIs coat of arms in found in the tower base. In the church is a parish chest dated c1560. The memorial stained glass windows are from the time of building. The granite for the font came from Shap. Of further interest inside the church is a collection of black and white photographs from 1936.

Steamboat trips are available on Ullswater Lake, and Aira Force waterfall is nearby.
