Boathouse Field Nature Reserve

Common Alder by Bill WakefieldThis small reserve consists of reed bed, woodland, and unimproved grassland. The woodland contains a mix of alder, ash, birch and Scots pine. Lower down are dogwood, elder, and guelder rose.

In the fields yellow iris, knapweed, and meadowsweet can be found.

Young Great Spotted Woodpecker by Jason RomeBirds that breed here include the great spotted woodpecker, blackcap, sedge warbler, and nuthatch. Water birds use the reed bed.

North of Keswick off the A66 is a minor road signed for Portinscale and Lingholm Gardens. Drive past Derwent marina, reserve immediately on the left; limited parking.
