Isel St Michael and All Angels Church by Ann Bowker Mad About MountainsSt Michael and All Angels church, built in 1130, has Norman windows on both sides of the nave and chancel. The west window dates from 1878. The doorways are original. There is a fragment of an Anglo-Danish cross-shaft in the church and another carved stone fragment bearing a triskele (early Christian symbol with three arms). A belfry now occupies the place of a former tower.

Nearby Isel Hall has a 15th century pele tower while Hewthwaite Hall, to the south-west, was constructed in Elizabethan times.Isel Hall by Ann Bowker Mad About Mountains
