Businesses in Winster Towns and Villages of Cumbria

Winster the Brown Horse by allan5819 (Allan McKever) FlickrThe small village of Winster lies in the valley of the river Winster near Windermere lake. The river has a strong presence flowing right through the village. It was the original boundary between Westmoreland and Lancashire. Arthur Ransome (Swallows and Amazons) lived here for a time from 1924.

Winster Church by Matthew EmmottHoly Trinity church was built by the Victorians in 1875 to replace a chapel of ease. It has a low nave, chancel, and bellcote. The only remains of the old church are the font and painted texts. There are two stained glass windows; one is of St Kentigern.

The village has a community hall.
